Rogerson Jonas Dos Santos Meira was taken into custody on July 2, according to ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston office. His Massachusetts criminal history includes convictions for assault and battery on a family or household member, strangulation, kidnapping, resisting arrest, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, ERO Boston said in a post on X. Mass Daily News reported earlier this month on another Wrentham ICE arrest of a Brazilian illegal immigrant, whose rap sheet included home invasion and kidnapping charges.
"ERO Boston will continue to prioritize removing dangerous criminal aliens from New England communities," the field office added in a follow-up.
Meira is in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
His arrest is one of several ICE Boston has publicized in recent weeks across Massachusetts, including a Brazilian national in Whitman with pending assault charges, a second Brazilian in Brockton with prior OUI convictions, a Brazilian in Weymouth with a motor-vehicle record, an Ecuadorian in Brockton with 20 adult arraignments, and a Haitian national in Brockton, Danilo Michel, facing a pending rape charge — whom the Brockton District Court released without honoring ICE's detainer, Mass Daily News reported last week. MDN has also documented a Cape Cod Brazilian ICE arrest on strangulation and dangerous-weapon-assault charges earlier this month.
