Prior arrests:
  • Assault
  • Violation of an abuse prevention order
  • Intimidation
Massachusetts made "strangulation or suffocation" its own felony charge in 2014, carrying up to five years in state prison — a recognition by the Legislature that strangling a domestic partner is one of the strongest predictors of future homicide in intimate-partner violence.

The pattern

Pimentel Dos Santos is the latest name in a pattern MDN has been documenting almost daily.
Yesterday, feds charged another Brazilian illegal immigrant — Helbert Oliveira — with a $200,000 armed robbery of a Massachusetts cash courier. Two days ago, ICE Boston nabbed a Brazilian illegal immigrant in Wrentham whose prior arrests included home invasion, kidnapping for extortion, and masked armed robbery. On Wednesday, Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux ignored an ICE detainer and freed an illegal-immigrant gun suspect, calling the federal agency "amateur hour."
Massachusetts continues to be a state where the governor has repeatedly told illegal immigrants they are welcome, where the driver's-license law was rewritten to stop asking about immigration status, and where Cambridge has amended its Welcoming Community Ordinance to bar city police from cooperating with ICE without a valid judicial warrant.
That's the environment in which Pimentel Dos Santos was allegedly living — until ICE Boston caught up with him in Hyannis on June 10.
