BOSTON — Broad daylight. Orange Line train. Jackson Square station. And a hooded man, MBTA Transit Police say, walked up to a rider, threatened him, then blasted him in the face with pepper spray.
The department released surveillance stills of the June 23 attack on X Monday and asked the public to name him.

Around noon that day, according to the department, the suspect "without provocation" approached the victim on the Orange Line at Jackson Square, threatened him, then discharged an OC spray canister at him. The charge sought is assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — a felony.
Recognize him? MBTA Transit Police want a call. The Criminal Investigation Unit's line is 617-222-1050, and tipsters may remain anonymous.

Monday's tweet is the latest in a run of "recognize him?" pleas the Transit Police have posted this year. In June, the department released stills of a Patriots-shirt suspect who beat an elderly rider at Alewife. In May, they asked for help identifying a hooded man accused of groping a woman — and put out photos of a knife-wielding attacker on an Everett bus. Mass Daily News has tallied more than a dozen public MBTA crimes documented on the system since the start of the year.
Jackson Square is the Orange Line station on the Roxbury-Jamaica Plain line, one stop north of Stony Brook and two stops north of Green Street. The Transit Police did not release the victim's condition or any additional identifying details on the suspect.
