REVERE — A 47-year-old man in a vintage Meadowlark Lemon Harlem Globetrotters jersey allegedly tried to attack an MBTA bus operator on Squire Road late Wednesday night — then shattered the bus window before Transit Police caught up to him, the department said Thursday.
The alleged attack happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, along Squire Road. According to Transit Police, the man approached the operator and tried to assault them. When that failed, he smashed out a window on the bus.

Meadowlark Lemon was the "Clown Prince of Basketball" — one of the most recognizable Harlem Globetrotters of all time, from his debut in the mid-1950s through the late 1970s. Not exactly a common wardrobe pick on Squire Road at 11 p.m. on a Wednesday.
Transit Police say the jersey was distinctive enough that it helped officers pin down the suspect after he fled. He was located a short time later, arrested, and transported to MBTA Transit Police headquarters for processing.
Neither the man's name nor the charges he faces have been released. Transit Police did not describe any injuries to the bus operator.

The Revere arrest lands in the middle of an ugly stretch for MBTA operators and riders alike.
In April, Jamaica Plain resident Michael Vandenbroeke was arraigned on charges of indecent assault and battery against a Silver Line driver, after prosecutors said he grabbed her face and groped her breast on video. Judge Paul Treseler set his bail at $500.
Assaults on riders have piled up too — from a knife-wielding suspect who terrorized an Everett bus in broad daylight in April, to a man with 14 outstanding warrants who dropped his pants and started urinating on a South End bus in June.
