WEBSTER — A Fourth of July backyard rager on the shore of Webster Lake ended with six people charged and two abandoned jet skis parked at the Webster Police station — where they remain, unclaimed.

Around 5:39 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, Officer Patrick Trainor of the Webster Police Marine Patrol activated his boat's emergency lights and attempted to stop a jet ski that was towing another person on a tube — a practice that is illegal on Webster Lake, per WPD. Instead of stopping, the jet ski's operator floored it toward the shoreline at 25 Wakefield Ave., where a large gathering was underway in the backyard. Once the jet ski hit the shore, the driver jumped off and disappeared into the crowd.

That is when Mr. Logan Benoit, 20, of Danielson, Connecticut, walked over to the sound system and turned the music up in what Webster PD describes as an attempt to interfere with the investigation. Additional Webster PD officers arrived and began identifying the rest of the party. Benoit tried to walk away from officers and refused to identify himself. He was placed under arrest for being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Five other individuals were charged with the same offense and will be summonsed to Dudley District Court. All are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Webster PD, in the same press release, tacked on an update the department may want to laminate: "We also towed two jet skis which have been at the station, unclaimed. We figured with all the criminal justice knowledge on display that day, our friends would be down to get them the next day. Maybe they'll pick them up with their summons for court."

The jet skis remain at the Webster Police Department.
