Cruisers lined the street through the afternoon and a BPD Crime Scene Response truck rolled in as investigators walked the pavement and taped off what had been a working-class Dorchester block only minutes earlier. Officers recovered ballistic evidence in the area of Glenway Street, several blocks from the shooting scene. Police warned drivers that traffic near York Street, Glenway Street and Greenwood Street could be affected while the investigation continued.
Investigators worked the scene through the afternoon. The department did not say whether the victim was targeted or whether the shooting was tied to any earlier incident.

Another life added to Boston's summer of gunfire

Wednesday's homicide comes as Boston is still counting bullet holes from earlier this month, when a single night on Blue Hill Avenue produced 13 gunshot victims and two dead. Homicide detectives across the city have been rotating through active scenes for weeks. Mayor Michelle Wu's insistence that Boston is one of America's safest major cities is getting harder to say with a straight face.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Boston police at (617) 343-4470 or the CrimeStoppers tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS. Anonymous tipsters can text "TIP" to CRIME (27463). The department says the identities of anonymous tipsters will be protected.
This is a developing story.
