MATTAPAN — A grim Saturday afternoon in Mattapan ended with one woman dead on Blue Hill Avenue, a Route 28 MBTA bus mangled by an allegedly stolen vehicle, and a man in handcuffs after what the Boston Globe described as a "wild spree" that began with a crash near Woodhaven Street and ended with a body in the middle of the road.
Boston police said the chaos kicked off around 2 p.m. when the driver crashed his own car at Blue Hill Avenue and Woodhaven. Instead of waiting for officers, he bailed from the wreck, allegedly carjacked another vehicle nearby, and tore outbound down Blue Hill Avenue, the Dorchester Reporter reported.

What followed was a blocks-long chain of destruction. The stolen vehicle ripped down Blue Hill Avenue, slamming into multiple parked cars and clipping a Route 28 MBTA bus. By the time he reached the 1600 block, near Fairway Street, a woman pedestrian was standing in the middle of Blue Hill Avenue. She was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.
A second person was injured in the rampage. A third was treated for a panic attack.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene, according to Boston police. He is being treated at a local hospital for injuries he sustained in the initial crash, the department told MDN on Saturday night. Officers shut down the full mile-plus stretch of Blue Hill Avenue from Woodhaven all the way to Mattapan Square as investigators and the medical examiner's office worked the scene through the evening.
Neither the woman nor the suspect has been publicly identified — her name is being withheld pending family notification; his pending the filing of charges.
This is a developing story.
