Boston police hunt stranger who bashed two Charlestown 99 patrons in head with a padlock-on-a-lanyard

BPD District A-1 detectives released a community alert and surveillance still of the suspect, who attacked two patrons at the Ninety-Nine Restaurant on Austin Street on May 26 and fled. Both victims were hospitalized with head lacerations.

CHARLESTOWN — Boston police are hunting a stranger who bashed two patrons in the head with what appeared to be a padlock attached to the end of a lanyard at the Ninety-Nine Restaurant on Austin Street, leaving both bleeding from the head.
The attack happened just after 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, at the 99 at 31 Austin Street, according to a community alert issued Thursday by detectives in BPD's District A-1. Officers on scene found "two patrons at the bar bleeding from their head areas," the alert said. Both sustained lacerations requiring medical attention and were transported to a local hospital.
The suspect "struck both victims with what appeared to be a padlock at the end of a lanyard," BPD said. A surveillance still released with the alert shows the suspect at an MBTA station fare-gate area, the lanyard still dangling from his hand.

According to the alert, the suspect is:
  • A white male
  • Wearing a black tank top
  • Black shorts
  • A knee brace on his right knee
  • Black sneakers
  • Sunglasses clipped to the front of his tank top
  • A watch on his right wrist
The suspect remains at large.
