BOSTON — They got the child-burner in Virginia. They got the child rapist in Panama. They got the man who allegedly shot a Boston woman in the head, the man wanted for two homicides in the Dominican Republic, and the pair who allegedly shot a ninth grader in Brookline. They did it in 31 days.
The US Marshals Service apprehended 49 fugitives in May who were wanted for violent crimes committed in Massachusetts, federal authorities announced Wednesday. The arrests, reported by the Boston Globe, stretched from Boston and Lawrence to Loudoun County, Virginia, and Panama City, Panama. The Marshals' Fugitive Task Force for the District of Massachusetts led the operation alongside state and local law-enforcement partners.
"We are the manhunters of the federal government," US Marshal Dennis Matulewicz said in a statement. "No one does it better, but we don't do it alone. We are extremely fortunate to have amazing local, state, and federal law enforcement partners across Massachusetts with whom we work tirelessly every day to apprehend the most dangerous and violent fugitives to make our communities safer."
A handful of the cases show the range.
