BOSTON — Twelve spent shell casings. One Charlestown building. And, ten days later, a 17-year-old in handcuffs on Ocean Street in Dorchester.
Boston's Youth Violence Strike Force arrested the juvenile on a Suffolk County Juvenile Court felony warrant around 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, according to Boston Police. He now faces five charges: assault and battery by means of a firearm, possession of a large capacity firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and vandalizing property.

The underlying shooting was a broad-daylight affair. At about 2:25 p.m. on Monday, May 11, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) responded to a shots-fired call at Bunker Hill Street and Walford Way in Charlestown. Victims told officers an "unknown black male" had fired several rounds into the building at 76 Monument Street, per the Boston Police statement. Police recovered twelve spent shell casings — inside the building and in the surrounding area.
The arrest fits a now-familiar Youth Violence Strike Force playbook. In February, the same unit pulled a defaced .380 out of a 15-year-old's backpack on Pope Hill Street in Dorchester, steps from the Murphy K-8 School. Loaded gun. Juvenile suspect. Daytime. Same patrols, different teenager.
The Charlestown investigation remains open. District A-1 detectives can be reached at (617) 343-4248. Anonymous tips go to the Boston Police CrimeStoppers line at 1-800-494-TIPS or by texting "TIP" to 27463.
