ROXBURY — A ShotSpotter activation on Abbotsford Street that turned up nothing more than spent shell casings and two banged-up parked cars has ended with two Dorchester teens in handcuffs — and a Glock, a revolver and what police are calling an assault-style rifle pulled out of one of the homes officers searched.
The night of April 15, District B-2 officers rolled to Abbotsford Street after the gunfire sensors went off. They found multiple spent shell casings and ballistic damage to two parked vehicles. Nobody had been hit. Detectives towed a vehicle parked in the area and started pulling tape — city-operated street cameras, private security cameras and additional cameras at a residential building, according to Boston Police.
Five weeks of camera work later, investigators had names. Arrest warrants followed.

On May 15, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force and the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit arrested Jahsan Mierez, 18, of Dorchester, without incident. Inside the residence officers searched afterward, they recovered a Glock handgun, a revolver and what appeared to be an assault-style rifle, along with several rounds of ammunition. Police say additional firearm charges are expected to be filed in connection with that recovery.
On May 20, officers arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male from Dorchester near New Chardon Street. The same day, the Youth Violence Strike Force, the BPD Fugitive Unit and the BPD SWAT Team executed a search warrant at a Dorchester residence connected to one of the outstanding suspects. Officers made a peaceful entry and recovered clothing consistent with what one of the suspects was observed wearing on the night of the shooting.
Mierez is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, attempted assault and battery by discharge of a firearm, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
The 16-year-old faces the same seven counts as juvenile delinquency complaints and is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
