Quincy man, 43, charged in pre-dawn Dorchester home invasion that left two bleeding — including senior citizen

Boston police nabbed Robert Rutledge, 43, during an unrelated drug probe at a Woodrow Avenue address — nearly four weeks after a 2:49 a.m. attack on Stratton Street hospitalized two victims.

DORCHESTER — A Quincy man is behind bars after Boston police linked him to a violent pre-dawn home invasion that left two people hospitalized — including a senior citizen who could not stand without help.
Robert Rutledge, 43, was arrested on May 15, 2026 after officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) responded to an unrelated drug investigation at 247 Woodrow Avenue — and discovered the suspect they had been seeking for nearly four weeks, according to the Boston Police Department.
The original attack unfolded at 2:49 a.m. on April 20, 2026, when officers were called to 40 Stratton Street for an assault and battery in progress. They arrived to find one victim bleeding heavily from facial injuries. A second victim was located inside the apartment, bleeding from the head and unable to stand without assistance. Boston EMS rushed both to a local hospital with serious injuries.

A weeks-long investigation

In the days following the home invasion, B-3 detectives pulled surveillance footage from multiple cameras in the surrounding area. That footage — combined with other information developed during the probe — corroborated Rutledge's identity and tracked his movements in the immediate aftermath of the attack, police said. A detective then obtained an arrest warrant from Dorchester District Court.
The break came the morning of May 15, when officers responded to a radio call for a drug investigation on Woodrow Avenue. Rutledge was located at the scene and taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital and subsequently booked at the Nashua Street Jail.

The charges

Rutledge is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on:
  • Home Invasion
  • Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon on a Person 65 or Older
He also faces outstanding warrants from Brockton District Court and Dorchester District Court — meaning he was already a wanted man before B-3 caught up to him.
During the course of the investigation, a second individual was also summonsed to Dorchester District Court on a separate drug-related charge.
The charges are allegations; Rutledge is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
