BOSTON — A man flagged down Boston Police in the South End on Friday afternoon and told them he had just been robbed at gunpoint — through his own open car door, in broad daylight, on Northampton Street.
Now BPD is asking the public to help identify the suspect.

According to a Boston Police community alert, the victim drove to 101 Northampton Street around noon on May 1 to meet a friend who was supposed to return some of his property. He texted the friend that he had arrived. What ran up to the car next, per the alert, wasn't the friend.

An "unknown black male" yanked open the passenger door and pointed a black firearm at the victim. The suspect ripped off the victim's chain, snatched his cell phone, and fled down Northampton Street toward Shawmut Avenue.
Detectives assigned to District D-4 (South End) are reviewing the case. BPD released an image of the suspect on Tuesday and is asking anyone with information to call D-4 detectives at (617) 343-5619.
