BOSTON — A 40-year-old Athol man with two active warrants allegedly stood on a Back Bay sidewalk Saturday afternoon and smoked drugs from a glass pipe — apparently unbothered by the fact that a Drug Control Unit had been watching him do it.
It went downhill from there.
According to Boston Police, officers from District D-14 had been surveilling Keith Curtis as part of an ongoing drug investigation. Around 3:50 p.m. on May 2, police say, he was sitting outside 700 Boylston Street with two other people when officers moved in. He allegedly ingested drugs from a glass pipe as they approached.

When officers got close, police say Curtis pushed an officer, turned, and tried to run. A brief struggle followed. He allegedly dropped a small pouch on the sidewalk, slipped out of his jacket entirely, and bolted.
Other officers grabbed him within seconds.
A search recovered approximately 32 grams of fentanyl, well into trafficking territory under Massachusetts law. The two people sitting with him were issued summonses for drug possession.
Curtis is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Trafficking Class A Drugs and Resisting Arrest.
