QUINCY — An ICE agent was nearly crushed Friday morning after the driver of a vehicle being stopped for an immigration arrest allegedly used his car as a weapon to escape, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. on Bigelow Street in Quincy. Federal agents had pulled over a vehicle to make a targeted arrest when the driver decided he wasn’t going quietly.
As agents stepped out of their vehicle to make the arrest, the suspect hit the gas — slamming into the agents’ car and briefly pinning one of them against it.
"The undocumented immigrant in an attempt to evade arrest weaponized his vehicle and nearly crushed a special agent," a DHS spokesperson said.
The agent was able to partially move out of the way but was still struck. He was taken to a hospital and evaluated for minor injuries.
The suspect fled the scene. As of Sunday, it is unclear whether he has been apprehended.

3,300% increase in vehicle attacks

According to DHS, ICE officers are experiencing a 3,300% increase in vehicle attacks.
The Quincy incident came less than two weeks after a similar attack on April 1, when a suspect being targeted for arrest in Milford — a criminal undocumented immigrant previously arrested for assault and battery on a family member, according to DHS — rammed his vehicle into a federal law enforcement vehicle on Route 109 and fled into Medway. The driver and passenger jumped from the van and ran. No officers were injured in that incident.
DHS has placed the blame squarely on what it calls "sanctuary politicians" for encouraging resistance.
"This dangerous attempt to evade arrest comes after sanctuary politicians held webinars and provided resources and tips for how to openly defy ICE," the agency said, calling out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for hosting a webinar with tips on evading arrest, Rep. Dan Goldman for posting a video calling on undocumented immigrants to "make a plan" for ICE encounters, and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Gov. Gavin Newsom for distributing multilingual guides advising people how to recognize ICE agents and block entry.
"We are once again calling on sanctuary politicians, agitators, and the media to turn the temperature down and stop calling for violence and resistance against ICE law enforcement," DHS said.
Massachusetts has been a flashpoint in the standoff. Boston police ignored 167 ICE detainer requests in 2025, according to the agency. Mayor Wu has sued the Trump administration over attempts to tie federal funding to immigration compliance.
No charges have been announced in connection with Friday’s incident. The suspect remains at large.
