ROCHESTER — A New Bedford man was arrested early Sunday morning after he was found wandering around Rochester at 6 a.m. with a jacket over his head, knocking on random doors and asking strangers for a cigarette.
Residents did not offer him a Marlboro. They called the police.

Officers responded and made contact with Sedale Depina of New Bedford, who had chosen the predawn hours of a Sunday to go door-to-door in a town where that sort of thing gets noticed quickly. When officers ran his name, they discovered he was wanted on two outstanding warrants — one for shoplifting and one for trespassing.
Depina was arrested on the spot.
Rochester Police, known for their colorful social media recaps, described the encounter as "DoorDash: Cigarette Edition" and noted that Rochester residents "don’t tip in cigarettes at sunrise — they tip in 911 calls."
The department reminded the public: "If you’re out at 6 AM knocking on doors looking for cigarettes, you might just end up quitting cold turkey courtesy of Team RPD."
