BOSTON — If you're planning a shoplifting trip to Boston's Back Bay, you might want to bring a bigger car.
Two suspects from the Bronx apparently drove more than 200 miles to rob a high-end clothing chain on Friday evening — and liked it so much they did it again four blocks away. They were arrested with $1,726 in stolen merchandise stuffed in a vehicle parked on Dartmouth Street, because subtlety was clearly never part of the plan.
Floyd Summerville, 55, of the Bronx, New York, and Tiphaine Jones, 45, were both placed in handcuffs after police say they hit both Alo locations in Back Bay — the Prudential Mall and 151 Newbury Street — in a single evening.
It started around 6:40 p.m. Officers assigned to District D-4 were alerted to two shoplifters inside the Alo store at the Prudential Center. The pair had been spotted filling a bag with merchandise before casually strolling out the front door. By the time officers arrived, the suspects had vanished — because the responding officers were already dealing with a separate shoplifting incident nearby.
Yes, two shoplifting calls at the same time. Welcome to Back Bay.
Minutes later, the same two suspects turned up inside the Alo store at 151 Newbury Street. Because once apparently wasn't enough. Because why drive all the way from the Bronx for just one store?

Summerville was spotted leaving the Newbury Street store while Jones stayed inside. Officers caught up with him at 279 Dartmouth Street, slapped on the cuffs, and found stolen merchandise on him. A key fob in his pocket led them to the getaway car — parked right there on Dartmouth, loaded with more stolen goods.
Jones was stopped walking out of the store and handcuffed. She gave officers multiple fake names and flat-out refused to tell them who she was. Police figured it out during booking.
All $1,726 in merchandise was recovered and returned to the stores.
Both are expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.

Summerville faces charges of larceny over $1,200 and conspiracy.
Jones faces charges of larceny over $1,200, conspiracy, receiving stolen property over $1,200, and furnishing false identification to law enforcement — because apparently stealing from two stores in one night wasn't enough charges for one evening.
The Prudential Center, at this point, might as well install a revolving door for shoplifters. It has been looted repeatedly, with thieves brazenly walking out of Canada Goose and other retailers while staff watch. Last month, three shoplifters were busted in a single hour at the mall — one of them had fentanyl, crack, and assaulted a police officer.
Boston's Back Bay — once synonymous with luxury shopping and brownstone elegance — has become something of a free shopping experience for anyone bold enough to try. The suspects don't even need to be local anymore. They're driving in from other states.
Summerville and Jones made it about four hours before the cuffs went on. Most shoplifters in this city don't even get that far — because most of them don't get caught at all.
