Opening day at Fenway is supposed to be the easy one. The Sox are 1-4 coming into Friday's home opener against the Padres — the crowd was already in a mood. You walk out, you wave, and hope the fans are at least happy to be there. That's how it's supposed to go.
Not this year.
The boos were loud. They were sustained. And they came from everywhere — not one section, not a handful of hecklers, but the full stadium. Both Democrats stood there and took it on live television while 37,000 Bostonians made themselves heard.
Healey has spent months battling criticism over the migrant shelter crisis, rising housing costs, and what her opponents call a total lack of accountability at every level of state government. Wu is neck-deep in a budget deficit exceeding $100 million, a White Stadium deal that tripled in cost to $135 million, and a growing reputation for using allies on the city council to bury anything politically inconvenient.
Politicians love a photo op at Fenway. Fenway doesn't always love them back.
