OAK BLUFFS — It started as a routine inspection sticker stop at 2:48 in the morning. It ended with cocaine, a warrant, and a suspended license.
An Oak Bluffs Police Department officer attempted to pull over a 2016 Ford Focus on Edgartown Vineyard Haven Road early Sunday after spotting an expired inspection sticker. The driver didn't stop. He drove for 0.6 miles, reaching speeds of 70mph, before finally pulling over near Canterbury Lane in Tisbury — where a Tisbury officer had responded to assist.

A routine check revealed Santos' Massachusetts driver's license was suspended. Then came the Falmouth District Court arrest warrant.
Then the cocaine.
Officers located three individually wrapped plastic bags inside the vehicle containing a white powdery substance consistent with cocaine. Santos was placed under arrest on the spot.
He now faces six charges:
  • Active Arrest Warrant
  • Operating After License Suspension
  • Possession of a Class B Substance (Cocaine)
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Speeding
  • No Inspection Sticker
Martha's Vineyard — known for its wealthy summer residents, progressive politics, and famously dramatic reaction to a 2022 migrant relocation — doesn't often make the crime pages. Santos is a year-round resident of Tisbury, one of the island's six towns.
The case was handled by Oak Bluffs Police Department with assistance from Tisbury Police.
