HYDE PARK — A Boston firefighter was rushed to the hospital Saturday night after a two-alarm fire ripped across the rooftop of a commercial building at Westinghouse Plaza in Hyde Park, sending flames and thick smoke billowing into the sky as crews scrambled aerial ladders to fight the blaze.
The fire broke out just after midnight at a rear building in the plaza, and the second alarm was struck immediately upon the chief's arrival — a sign of how fast the blaze was spreading.
Within minutes, the fire was racing across the entire roofline, forcing crews to deploy multiple aerial ladders just to reach the flames.

The heavy fire was knocked down within the hour. Companies overhauled the structure and checked for extension as smoke continued to pour from the building.
One firefighter was transported to the hospital by Boston EMS. The extent of the injuries was not immediately disclosed. Detail companies remained on scene into the early morning hours to monitor for hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
