BOSTON — Gov. Maura Healey took aim at President Trump this week, demanding he "refund" Massachusetts families $1,745 each to offset what she called the economic damage caused by his tariff policies.
"We're all feeling the economic strain caused by Donald Trump's tariffs," Healey wrote on X. "It's time for the President to refund Massachusetts families the $1,745 they're owed."

The $1,745 figure comes from estimates of how tariffs have impacted household costs across the state. Healey linked to a Boston Globe report detailing the claim.
The demand comes as Healey continues to juggle fights on multiple fronts. Last week, she fired off a letter to outgoing DHS Secretary Kristi Noem demanding ICE hand over detailed information on every arrest made in Massachusetts since January 2025. ICE Director Todd Lyons and U.S. Attorney Leah Foley responded by asking why "the very governor who refuses to share information with federal law enforcement is now demanding information on ICE arrests."

Meanwhile, a recent University of New Hampshire poll found that while Healey still leads every potential Republican challenger by at least 25 points, her favorability has been steadily declining.
Notably absent from Healey's list of demands: any mention of the state legislature audit that 72% of Massachusetts voters approved. The ballot measure gave the state auditor the authority to audit the legislature's books, but Healey has made no public effort to push for its implementation.
The governor's office did not respond to questions about why she has not publicly supported enforcement of the voter-approved audit.
