BRIDGEWATER — He was convicted of beating someone over the age of 60. He was convicted of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He had an open charge for violating an abuse prevention order. And until Feb. 26, he was walking around Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
Walens Fenelon, a Haitian illegal immigrant, was finally taken into custody during ICE Boston enforcement operations last week, according to the agency.

Fenelon's criminal record reads like a greatest hits of violent offenses: assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — which carries up to 10 years in state prison under Massachusetts law — and assault and battery on a person 60 years or older, a felony punishable by up to three years. On top of that, ICE noted he has an additional arrest and an open charge for violating an abuse prevention order.

An abuse prevention order. Meaning a court had already determined someone needed legal protection from him.
The arrest comes as DHS reports law enforcement has arrested more than 700,000 undocumented immigrants in what it calls a record-breaking year under President Trump — with nearly 70% of ICE arrests involving individuals charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S.

Meanwhile, ICE Boston continues to face resistance from Massachusetts officials. Boston's city government voted 9-4 to block public records requests related to ignored ICE detainers — meaning voters can't even find out which criminals the city chose to release instead of handing to federal authorities. ICE's field office director has called the approach "politically motivated," accusing the city of releasing criminals rather than cooperating.
Fenelon is currently in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
