WEBSTER — A Massachusetts man with 96 prior criminal charges — who was previously arrested for trafficking fentanyl and hiding drugs inside a police cruiser just months ago — is back in custody after US Marshals, State Police and Webster police found him hiding under a pile of clothes in a closet during a pre-dawn raid.
Ryan Hassett, 34, of Webster, was one of two fugitives taken into custody during the multi-agency operation at 32 Market Street early Wednesday morning. How a man with nearly 100 prior charges ended up back on the street and in a position to be wanted for fentanyl trafficking a second time was not addressed by authorities.
Officers, state troopers assigned to the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and US Marshals surrounded the apartment at approximately 5:56 a.m. and attempted to talk the occupants out. They refused to open the door.
After approximately 25 minutes, law enforcement forced entry into the apartment.

Maryjane Swenson, 34, of Oxford, was immediately taken into custody in the kitchen area. Swenson was wanted on eleven separate charges: trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking heroin, trafficking cocaine over 200 grams, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of an untraceable firearm, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, two counts of possession of a large capacity feeding device, possession to distribute crack cocaine, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
But Hassett was nowhere to be found.
Officers conducted a secondary search and discovered him concealed inside a long closet in the rear of the apartment that extended underneath a stairwell. He had buried himself under numerous items of clothing and other household items.
Hassett was wanted for trafficking fentanyl, possession of Class A and Class B controlled substances, and operating after suspension.

In January, Mass Daily News reported on his arrest after Webster police said he trafficked fentanyl and attempted to hide drugs inside a police cruiser during booking. At the time, authorities noted he had 96 prior criminal charges on his record.
Despite that history, Hassett was released and back in the community long enough to pick up another fentanyl trafficking charge. It took three law enforcement agencies and a forced entry to bring him in this time.
Due to Swenson being arrested by another agency, her booking photo was not released. Hassett's booking photo was provided by the Webster Police Department.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
