NORWOOD — Parents registering their children for kindergarten in Norwood found an unusual question on the form: what are your five-year-old's pronouns?
The online registration form for Willett Early Childhood Center, which handles kindergarten registration for the district, asks parents to select their child's gender from three options — Female, Male, or Nonbinary — and then pick from a list of nine pronoun sets, including she/her, he/him, they/them, she/they, he/they, they/she, they/he, any/all, and ze/zir.
Ze/zir. For kindergarten.
The form also asks for a "Preferred First Name" and how to pronounce the child's first and last names.
An image of the registration page was shared Thursday by Libs of TikTok, which has more than 4 million followers on X, and quickly went viral.

Thousands of people piled on, with many asking why a school district is putting gender identity language in front of parents whose children haven't even started kindergarten yet.
It's not the first time a Massachusetts school district has drawn fire over gender content aimed at young children. In Lexington, a federal judge ordered the school district to stop reading LGBTQ-themed books to a kindergartener after ruling the district likely violated the family's First Amendment rights. That case started when a father sued the district for refusing to let him opt his five-year-old out of LGBTQ-themed lessons.Willett Early Childhood Center sits at 100 Westover Parkway in Norwood, about 14 miles south of Boston.

The Norwood form surfaces as the Trump administration has been cracking down on gender identity policies in schools across the country. President Trump signed executive orders in January 2025 directing federal agencies to withhold funding from schools that use students' preferred pronouns without parental consent. The administration has since put 46 states on notice to remove gender ideology from sex education materials. In Massachusetts, AG Campbell celebrated after a federal court blocked portions of the order. Massachusetts' Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has issued guidance on gender identity in schools that says districts should collect gender information "only when necessary." The state does not require any specific form language.Registration at Willett opened January 12 and closed February 27. Children must turn five by August 31 to be eligible.
