BOSTON — Senator Ed Markey has laid out his vision for the future of America. All nine points of it. All at once.
The 79-year-old Massachusetts Democrat fired off a sweeping post calling to abolish ICE, impeach President Trump, remove RFK Jr. from his post, fire both Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and FBI Director Kash Patel, reverse the Trump tax cuts, pass universal healthcare, secure a Green New Deal — and, just for good measure, save Medicare and Social Security.
"We can and we must," Markey declared.
Defund and abolish ICE.
Remove RFK jr.
Fire Kristi Noem and Kash Patel.
Reverse Trump's Tax Cuts.
Invest in working families.
Save Medicare and Social Security.
Pass universal health care.
Secure a Green New Deal.
Impeach Trump.

The list
Let's go through Markey's demands one by one, starting with the obvious question: how many of these can the Democratic minority actually accomplish right now?
Defund and abolish ICE. Democrats don't control the House, the Senate, or the White House. ICE's budget is set by Congress. The chances of this happening in the current political climate are approximately zero.
Remove RFK Jr. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was confirmed as HHS Secretary by the Senate. Removing him would require either impeachment or Trump firing him. Neither is happening.
Fire Kristi Noem and Kash Patel. Same problem. Cabinet secretaries and agency heads serve at the pleasure of the president. Markey is essentially asking Trump to fire his own people.
Reverse Trump's Tax Cuts. This would require passing new legislation through both chambers of Congress. See above re: Democratic minority.

Invest in working families. A noble sentiment that is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this list without any specifics attached.
Save Medicare and Social Security. Both programs face long-term funding challenges regardless of who is in power. Markey has been in Congress since 1976 — first in the House, then the Senate — which means he's had roughly half a century to address this.
Pass universal health care. Democrats couldn't pass universal healthcare when they had a supermajority under Obama. They settled for the Affordable Care Act instead.
Secure a Green New Deal. Markey co-authored the Green New Deal resolution with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2019. When it came to a vote in the Senate in March 2019, not a single senator voted in favor. The motion failed 0-57, with 43 Democrats voting "present" rather than backing their own resolution.
Impeach Trump. Trump has already been impeached twice by the House — in 2019 and 2021. He was acquitted by the Senate both times. Democrats would need to flip the House first, then somehow convince enough Republican senators to convict.
The internet responds
The post quickly went viral — and the replies did not disappoint.
And ponies for everyone!

Same script every time: more taxes, more government, more drama. Impeached Trump... again.... Zero solutions. Zero accountability.. Blame Trump.....Rinse. Repeat.

This isn't Markey's first time swinging for the fences from the cheap seats. He previously called a voter ID bill "racist" despite the legislation accepting passports and military IDs, and accused the Trump administration of waging an "illegal war" after the US moved against Venezuela's Maduro. He's also facing a primary challenge from Congressman Seth Moulton, who has positioned himself as a more moderate alternative — and recently picked up an endorsement from Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. On the Republican side, John Deaton has already been building momentum — and posts like this probably aren't hurting his chances.Recipe for disaster for America.

But that's what Democrats want - Ametica to fail.
The losers that vote for you - can you remind them to stay in Mass? Stop coming to NH's Costco to save their $10 in sales tax.
Whether Markey's nine-point manifesto is a rallying cry or a wish list depends entirely on which side of the aisle you're sitting on. What's not up for debate: none of it is happening anytime soon.
