FALL RIVER — Police are hunting for an armed and dangerous suspect after a yellow Labrador retriever was shot and killed inside a local housing development earlier this month.

Kyron Simmons, 36, is wanted on six charges after officers responded to the Sunset Hill Housing Development on February 3 for a call for service. Upon arrival, patrol officers found what appeared to be fresh blood on the floor and discovered the dog suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Animal Control was immediately called to the scene. The yellow Lab was rushed to an emergency animal hospital but sadly did not survive its injuries.

A follow-up investigation by Major Crimes Division detectives — including a review of security camera footage, interviews, search warrants, and evidence collection — identified Simmons as the suspect in the shooting and in additional related offenses, according to Fall River Police.

  • Killing, maiming, or poisoning an animal
  • Carrying a firearm without a license
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a license
  • Reckless endangerment of a child

An arrest warrant has been issued. Police say Simmons is believed to be armed and dangerous, and are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact authorities immediately.
