SPRINGFIELD— State police have dismantled two drug and gun trafficking operations in Springfield, arresting six individuals and seizing a massive cache of weapons, drugs, and cash.
The Massachusetts State Police Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction Enforcement Team executed the coordinated busts on Tuesday and Wednesday, capping months of investigation into what authorities described as a "sophisticated" trafficking ring spanning Massachusetts and Puerto Rico.
The haul was staggering: 15 handguns, six rifles, 11 large-capacity magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. On the drug side, investigators seized approximately 8.5 kilograms of cocaine and 30,000 bags of fentanyl — enough to fuel countless overdoses on the streets of Western Massachusetts.

Police also confiscated roughly $63,000 in cash.
The first operation targeted a trafficking network that had been under investigation for four months, culminating in six simultaneous search warrants across Springfield. The second focused on a mid-level fentanyl trafficker operating in the greater Springfield area.
The names of those arrested have not yet been released.
Multiple agencies participated in the takedown, including Springfield investigation teams and the FBI.
For residents of Springfield, the bust offers a glimpse into the scale of illegal firearms and deadly drugs flowing through their community — and the ongoing battle to shut it down.
