BOSTON — Mayor Michelle Wu is back on the national stage — and she’s putting Boston’s name on it.
In a new briefing, Wu declared Boston “stands with Minneapolis,” doubling down a day after posting a fiery statement about an ICE shooting involving Alex Pretti.

Wu didn’t just offer sympathy. She went straight for the megaphone — accusing the Trump Administration of a “deadly, unlawful, and unconstitutional occupation” of the Twin Cities, calling it an “invasion,” and branding the federal response “dangerous and out-of-control.” She urged the courts to step in immediately to “stop the violence,” “end the occupation,” and restore peace to what she described as communities “under siege.”

She also claimed Boston helped lead a coalition of cities supporting a federal lawsuit to shut down what she called an “illegal ICE surge” in Minnesota — another sign Wu wants City Hall playing quarterback in a national showdown.
The politics are obvious: Wu is trying to cast Boston as a front-line city in her preferred storyline — Washington as the villain, activist mayors as the resistance, and everyone else expected to clap.

But back here, residents aren’t living in slogans. They’re living with day-to-day problems that don’t get solved with Instagram statements and out-of-state crusades.
“Boston stands with Minneapolis” is a clean line for a press graphic.
The question is whether Boston wants a mayor focused on Boston — or one constantly auditioning for the next cable-news segment.
