BOSTON — Another disturbing late-night incident on the MBTA has Transit Police hunting for a man accused of harassing a blind rider and interfering with his service dog on a Red Line train — before allegedly throwing an object at the victim’s face.

According to MBTA Transit Police, the confrontation unfolded around 11 p.m. on December 23 on a Red Line train at Park Street, a station that has increasingly become ground zero for after-dark chaos.

Investigators say the suspect zeroed in on a visually impaired man traveling with his service dog, allegedly grabbing and tugging on the dog’s harness and attempting to feed the animal — a serious violation that advocates say can endanger both the dog and its handler.

When the victim pulled his service dog closer to protect it, police say the situation turned hostile.

That’s when the suspect allegedly lashed out, throwing an object directly at the victim’s face before disappearing into the system.

Transit Police released surveillance images showing a casually dressed man wearing a beanie and jacket draped over his shoulders, now labeled a “subject of interest.” Officers are urging riders to take a close look and speak up if they recognize him.

Interfering with a service animal is not just reckless — it’s illegal. Service dogs are trained to keep their handlers safe, especially in unpredictable environments like crowded subway cars.

The incident adds to growing concerns about safety on the T, particularly at night, as riders report more aggressive behavior, unchecked harassment, and incidents involving vulnerable passengers.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the photos or has information is urged to contact MBTA Transit Police Criminal Investigations Unit at 617-222-1050.

For now, Transit Police say the investigation is active — and they’re counting on the public to help put a name to the face.
