FOXBOROUGH, Mass. β€” New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing serious criminal charges following an alleged incident in Dedham earlier this month.

Diggs has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery, according to court records. The charges stem from a reported domestic incident on December 2. Specific details of the allegation have not yet been made public.

An attorney representing Diggs appeared in Dedham District Court this week and requested that the police report be impounded, citing concerns about pretrial publicity. The court did not hear evidence related to the underlying incident at the brief hearing.

Diggs is scheduled to be formally arraigned in January. Until then, the case remains in a preliminary stage, and no plea has been entered.

In a statement to the team, Diggs has denied the allegations. The New England Patriots acknowledged awareness of the situation and said the organization is monitoring the matter while it gathers more information.

The NFL could also review the case under its personal conduct policy, which allows the league to place players on paid leave even before criminal proceedings are resolved.

Diggs, who joined New England ahead of the 2025 season, has been one of the Patriots’ most high-profile offseason additions. His legal situation now adds uncertainty as the team approaches the final stretch of the season.
