Massachusetts State Senator Jamie Eldridge didn’t just step into a political debate this week — he walked straight into a digital firing squad.
After Mass Daily News posted about a Honduran national who was finally deported after, according to ICE, ignoring a federal removal order dating back to 2015, Eldridge jumped into the MDN Instagram comments to defend her.
Residents were not having it.
What followed was one of the most aggressive, unfiltered public blowups Massachusetts politics has seen online — and every bit of it happened under an MDN post.
“We’re tired of paying for this”
That sentiment dominated the entire thread, but residents didn’t just speak in generalities. They delivered direct hits:
“You don’t do what you’re supposed to. You don’t come legally, you’re out — that’s it.” — @d0785082022
“She’s had deportation orders since 2015. She has no respect for our laws.” — @judy484849
“Why do people who broke federal law get a hotel room? I can’t even afford a hotel myself.” — multiple users across the thread
Some went straight for the political jugular:
“I’m literally switching from Democrat to Republican because of you.” — @d0785082022
“You ran unopposed. That’s the only reason you won.” — @aerotrvlr07
“You don’t care about citizens at all.” — numerous commenters
Others couldn’t believe Eldridge was defending someone with a decade-old removal order:
“Eleven years and no attempts to gain citizenship. They broke the law and have to be deported.” — @american_born_1962
A populist uprising, line by line
What made the blowback unique wasn’t just the volume — it was how specific and fed up the comments were.
“Governor Healey spent $1 billion or more on illegal aliens… it’s all a free ride for them while Massachusetts citizens live paycheck to paycheck.” — @annewithane1217
“You don’t know the public’s true sentiment because you’re living in a woke bubble.” — @aerotrvlr07
“Illegal is illegal. You can’t pick and choose the laws you want to enforce.” — @gckrug
One resident summarized the tax frustration bluntly:
“We’re tired of flipping their bill. If liberals want to pay for this, sign up and take it out of your paycheck.” — @annewithane1217
Another dropped the kind of Massachusetts energy you can’t script:
“How in the world does a dimwit liberal douchecanoe like you get elected to anything?” — @wallyshooman

Even long-term Democrats said they’ve had enough:
“I left before the lunatics in the Democratic Party began destroying a once beautiful and thriving state.” — @american_born_1962
And then came the sharpest accusation Eldridge faced all day — that his outrage had less to do with compassion, and more to do with who he wants votes from:
“Sure has nothing to do with the large Brazilian population that you’re catering to.” — @d0785082022
It was the moment residents made clear they believe Eldridge’s priorities are shaped by political convenience, not constituents.
“We can’t keep supporting people here illegally”
This line appeared repeatedly throughout the thread — the theme of the entire revolt.
“She was here illegally since 2014, ordered removed in 2015, outstanding removal order since 2017… and you defend that?” — @american_born_1962
“How is supporting some illegal foreigner helping America?” — @xxhexagonxx
“Mass is overwhelmed because you people keep rewarding lawbreakers.” — multiple commenters
And residents kept hammering the cost:
“How much did Mass spend on illegals last year? If it’s more than $0, they’re getting taxpayer-funded benefits.” — @dw.valor
“We see them in the hotels. It’s real. Stop lying.” — @pinkpoodle123
Eldridge tries to argue back — and it backfires spectacularly
Instead of leaving the battlefield, Eldridge tried debating everyone in sight. It did not go well.
When he claimed undocumented migrants “don’t receive benefits,” residents immediately fired back:
“Who’s paying for the migrant hotels? Free food? Medical? We aren’t stupid, you seem to be.” — @frankenstein_1966
When Eldridge implied some critics might be bots, residents erupted:
“On today’s episode of ‘everyone who disagrees with me is a bot’…” — @us71scout
When he insisted the hotels weren’t for migrants, people snapped:
“We’re tired of you lying. They are in hotels. We live here.” — @pinkpoodle123
And one user dropped the nuclear line that brought the entire thread to a halt:
“You should be deported too, you traitorous rodent.” — @tallen8888
Eldridge also kept defending the situation in the MDN comments, even arguing that many of the migrants — including the Haitian arrivals filling hotels — weren’t here illegally at all because they have TPS. He then doubled down, insisting the Honduran woman ICE deported after ignoring a 10-year removal order was “for all practical purposes American.”
The message from Massachusetts residents is unmistakable
After hours of back-and-forth, many residents converged around the same point:
“We’re tired of paying for this.”
“We can’t keep supporting people here illegally.”
“You guys are ruining this state.”
Whether Beacon Hill listens is another question entirely.
But the Mass Daily News comment section spoke — loudly, relentlessly, and with the full force of residents who are done being polite.
If Eldridge hoped to preach compassion, he instead confronted the fury of a state that feels overtaxed, overlooked, and pushed too far.
The uprising wasn’t subtle. It wasn’t quiet. And it wasn’t coming from bots.
It was real Massachusetts — and Eldridge remained in the ring for all of it. A rare show of stamina in modern politics.
