MILFORD — A caretaker trusted to look after a disabled man was arrested late Friday after allegedly molesting the vulnerable adult in an incident police are calling a shocking and “abhorrent” betrayal.
The disturbing case began around 9:16 PM on November 28, when dispatchers received a report that a disabled man had been sexually assaulted by the very person hired to protect him. Detectives launched an immediate investigation, racing to determine what had happened and who was responsible.
Within minutes, officers identified the alleged attacker as the victim’s caretaker — someone with full access to the disabled man’s daily routines and personal care.

At 10:02 PM, investigators brought in Calton Asanga, 27, of Milford, for questioning. According to police, Asanga admitted during the interview to improperly touching the victim, a confession that rapidly transformed the case from allegation to arrest.
Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino condemned the conduct in blistering terms, saying the facts point to “an abhorrent betrayal by someone who was trusted to provide care.”
Detectives say the quick turnaround — from initial report to confession — underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the vulnerability of the victim, who relied on the caretaker for basic support and safety.
Asanga has been charged with indecent assault and battery on a disabled person, a felony that carries major penalties due to the victim’s protected status.
Police say the investigation remains active, as detectives continue to document the timeline and collect additional evidence.
