WEYMOUTH — It was the kind of bank robbery attempt that looked like it was ripped straight from a low-budget crime show: a man in a gray hoodie allegedly walked into Eastern Bank, slid a note across the counter demanding cash, ran out without a dime, and was caught minutes later — on a bicycle.

Weymouth Police say the bizarre Tuesday afternoon heist began around 3:50 PM at the Eastern Bank on Washington Street, where 41-year-old Thomas P. Bois Jr. of Quincy allegedly arrived wearing gloves and a hoodie before handing a teller a written demand for money. No weapon. No mask. Just the note.

According to investigators, Bois bolted out the door empty-handed when the attempt fizzled, sprinting away from the bank and then hopping onto a bicycle in what officers described as an improvised escape route. Dispatch quickly blasted out a description, and responding officers began sweeping the area.

Within minutes, police spotted a man on a bike matching the updated look. Officers stopped him, identified him as Bois, and snapped photos on the spot before detectives rushed back to Eastern Bank to compare his appearance to surveillance footage.

Police say the video left little doubt — showing Bois entering the bank, handing over the demand note, and later attempting to alter his look after the failed robbery. With the footage in hand, officers placed him under arrest.

Bois is charged with Attempt to Commit a Crime (Unarmed Robbery), Larceny Under $1200, and a Default Warrant out of Boston District Court for Larceny Under $1200. He was arraigned the next day in Quincy District Court and is currently being held.

Weymouth Police publicly praised the lightning-fast work of the officers who cornered the attempted robber before rush hour traffic even backed up. What began as a bank robbery scare ended as a bicycle pursuit that lasted all of a few minutes.
