DORCHESTER— Boston Police officers from District C-11 made a dramatic arrest on Saturday night after pursuing a suspect allegedly armed and on the run. Dequan Mitchell, 28, of Mattapan, was taken into custody after a foot chase, during which authorities recovered a firearm tucked away in his jacket.

Around 10:50 PM, officers responded to reports of a group of individuals loitering near 146 Dorchester Avenue. Upon arrival, one suspect, later identified as Mitchell, was seen walking away with a suspicious bulge in his right jacket pocket. Officers ordered him to stop, but Mitchell reportedly zipped up his pocket and took off running, prompting a foot pursuit.

The chase ended at 63 Washington Street, where Mitchell was apprehended. A subsequent pat frisk revealed a SCCY CPX-2 firearm, complete with seven rounds loaded in the magazine lurking in his right pocket.

Mitchell now faces a slew of serious charges, including Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of a Firearm without an FID card, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID card. He's expected to be arraigned soon in Dorchester District Court, as the police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.

This alarming chase highlights ongoing concerns about gun possession and public safety in the area. With firearms becoming a regular fixture in local crimes, community members are left wondering about the effectiveness of law enforcement in keeping the streets safe.
