BOSTON— A Lawrence man was arrested today amid a sweeping investigation into a notorious drug trafficking organization known as “La Culebra.” Aris Arvelo Gonzalez, 37, faces serious charges, including conspiracy to manufacture, distribute, and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances.

Federal authorities reported that investigators seized over two kilograms of suspected controlled substances and a pill press during raids tied to Gonzalez in Lawrence. This arrest follows a prior incident where Gonzalez allegedly sold more than 1,500 grams of counterfeit pills containing fentanyl to an undercover agent while out on bail for previous drug offenses.

In a dramatic twist, authorities revealed that Gonzalez operated a significant drug manufacturing location out of an apartment in Methuen. A previous search of the premises in August uncovered over 18 kilograms of controlled substances and more drug paraphernalia, showcasing the extensive nature of this operation.

At the time of his arrest, Gonzalez was found with thousands of counterfeit pills stashed in smaller bags, along with a large cache of cash. The charges against him could lead to a staggering 20 years in prison and fines reaching $1 million.

The stakes are high, as this case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative designed to combat the rampant drug trade and protect communities from violent crime. Prosecutors announced that Gonzalez’s co-conspirators were already apprehended in connection with these operations, highlighting the broad network involved in this case.

The shocking details of this case expose the dark underbelly of drug trafficking in Massachusetts and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to clamp down on these dangerous operations.
