CAMBRIDGE—A cyclist reported finding dozens of sharp metal tacks scattered across the Hampshire Street bike lane this week, puncturing their tire and prompting a complaint to the city and police.

According to a post on the r/CambridgeMA forum, the rider discovered their “tire was full of them” after traveling eastbound between Prospect Street and Tremont Street. Photos shared online showed multiple small metal tacks pulled from the wheel.

It is not yet known how the tacks ended up in the bike lane or how long they were present. The rider stated the debris appeared to have been there for at least several days before they removed a portion of it themselves.

No injuries were reported, and officials have not confirmed whether the tacks were intentionally placed or accidentally spilled.

The City of Cambridge and Cambridge Police have not yet commented on the incident.
