BOSTON—In a scene that unfolded near a playground in the bustling South End, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force were on patrol when they encountered a group smoking marijuana at about 6:39 PM. As officers approached, the group took off running, leading to a tense foot chase through the streets.

Two officers inside the cruiser activated their lights and sirens, pursuing one suspect who refused to stop. The foot pursuit escalated into an alley behind 5 Aguadilla Street, where the suspect was apprehended. Officers discovered a firearm magazine containing thirty rounds hidden in the suspect's waistband and later recovered it from inside a jacket pocket.
