SPRINGFIELD, MASS.— A former staffer for Governor Maura Healey, Lamar Cook, has been granted bail in a shocking cocaine trafficking case that has rattled the political landscape. Originally held without bail following a dangerousness hearing on October 31, 2025, a judge modified Cook's detention status after a review on November 7.
Cook, 45, who served as the Deputy Director for the Governor’s regional office in Springfield, faces serious charges including trafficking over 200 grams of cocaine, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition. Authorities allege that he had approximately 17 pounds of cocaine delivered to the Massachusetts state office building and an additional 28 pounds sent to Hotel UMass in Amherst.

Bail has been set at a staggering $75,000, with conditions including the forfeiture of his passport. The Hampden District Attorney’s Office stated that while Cook remains a danger, the court found new conditions could ensure the safety of the community.
As this high-profile case develops, questions loom over how a key member of the Governor's team became embroiled in such a serious crime. Will this scandal impact the Healey administration, or will it simply fade into the background? Only time will tell as the legal proceedings continue.
