Drug trafficker with weapon offenses nabbed thanks to ICE partnership with MA Department of Corrections

The apprehension under the 287(g) program prevents the criminal alien from being a continued threat to the community.

BOSTON— A dangerous criminal illegal alien has been taken off the streets, thanks to the collaborative efforts between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Massachusetts Department of Corrections under the 287(g) Program. This program empowers local law enforcement to tackle critical aspects of U.S. immigration law, allowing them to identify and process removable aliens involved in criminal activity.

On October 28, authorities arrested Osiris Alexander Rodriguez-Guzman, a 31-year-old illegal alien from the Dominican Republic, at the North Central Correctional Institution in Gardner, Massachusetts. Rodriguez just completed a five-year sentence for serious drug trafficking charges, including the trafficking of over 200 grams of fentanyl and illegal weapons possession.

“Rodriguez presented a significant threat to public safety and is subject to a final order of removal issued by an immigration judge,” acting ICE Director Todd M. Lyons stated. His criminal record also includes multiple firearm offenses, raising alarms about his potential to reoffend.

Reports indicate that Rodriguez entered the U.S. unlawfully from Mexico in 2022, without going through the required immigration processes. Now, as he awaits his removal back to the Dominican Republic, officials are emphasizing that sanctuary city policies will not shield criminals from facing the law.

Thanks to the 287(g) Program, ICE can ensure that individuals like Rodriguez—who engage in criminal activity—are held accountable, sending a strong message that illegal actions will not go unpunished.
