BOSTON—An Irish firefighter visiting from Dublin was found guilty in a shocking hotel rape case that has left many reeling. Terence Crosbie, a member of the Dublin Fire Brigade, was convicted after a trial that revealed disturbing details of the March 2024 incident at the Omni Parker House hotel.
Prosecutors claimed that Crosbie, 35, assaulted a 28-year-old woman after she had spent the evening drinking at the nearby Black Rose bar. Reports indicate that the woman returned to the hotel with another firefighter, where they engaged in consensual sex. However, in the dead of night, the victim allegedly woke to find Crosbie on top of her, violating her trust in a place she believed was safe.

"This man, sworn to protect his community, became a predator," said Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Daniela Mendes during her opening statements. "When he entered that hotel room, he saw that [victim] was asleep. And that she was vulnerable and defenseless."
After the assault, the victim quickly fled to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she underwent DNA testing. Alarming results revealed the genetic profiles of two men, although authorities were unable to definitively match the DNA to Crosbie. Notably, as the investigation unfolded, Crosbie fled Boston, rebooking his flight to leave earlier than planned. He was ultimately arrested at Logan Airport after police intercepted his flight, which was taxiing for takeoff.

During the trial, Crosbie's defense team argued that the case lacked concrete evidence. They emphasized the woman's alcohol consumption and the inability to provide a clear DNA match, stating, "We don’t convict people on suspicion. We don’t convict people on maybes."
This was not Crosbie's first time facing trial in relation to these allegations; an earlier trial resulted in a mistrial earlier this year. He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 30, as the fallout from this shocking case continues to unravel.
