BOSTON—A brazen drug bust unfolded this week in the South End, as the Boston Police Department's Drug Control Unit nabbed a suspect allegedly involved in the trafficking of fentanyl right outside a Dunkin’ Donuts.
In a coordinated effort, officers observed suspicious activity near 616 Massachusetts Avenue at around 11:30 a.m on Wednesday. The eye-catching scene kicked off when law enforcement noticed a male engaging in behavior indicative of a street-level drug transaction. Moments later, he was seen interacting with the driver of an Acura before returning to the coffee shop as the car sped away.

Officers, suspecting a drug deal had just gone down, moved in for an inquiry. A search revealed approximately 19 grams of suspected fentanyl concealed on the suspect, who was advised he would face charges for trafficking the deadly substance. The police then tracked down the Acura, stopping it near Tremont and Ruggles Streets.
During this dramatic stop, officers recovered an undisclosed sum of U.S. currency, torn plastic baggies, and two cell phones, all items consistent with drug distribution operations. The driver of the Acura, identified as 22-year-old Kevin Reyes-Martinez of Chestnut Hill, MA, was arrested on charges of trafficking fentanyl and conspiracy to violate drug laws. He is slated for arraignment in Boston Municipal Court.
This incident highlights the ongoing battle against the opioid crisis in the city, as local authorities intensify efforts to crack down on drug trafficking activities.
