ICE busts illegal immigrant convicted of strangulation, kidnapping, and child assault in Massachusetts

BOSTON β€” A 21-year-old illegal immigrant from Guatemala with a disturbing history of violent crimes β€” including child assault, strangulation, and kidnapping β€” has been arrested in Massachusetts as part of a massive federal immigration crackdown.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Perfecto Nolasco-Lopez was taken into custody during Operation Patriot 2.0, a statewide enforcement surge that targeted violent and repeat criminal aliens.

Federal records show Nolasco-Lopez has been convicted of indecent assault and battery on a child, assault and battery, strangulation/suffocation, and kidnapping. He was sentenced to three years and one day in Essex County before being transferred to immigration custody.

ICE says Nolasco-Lopez was one of 1,406 illegal immigrants arrested across Massachusetts during the Patriot 2.0 operation, which ran from September 4 to 30 and focused on transnational organized crime, gangs, and violent offenders.

The coordinated effort involved ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston, Homeland Security Investigations New England, and partners from the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshals Service, Diplomatic Security Service, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

More than 600 of those arrested had significant criminal convictions or pending charges in the U.S., according to ICE. The operation also targeted members of MS-13, Tren de Aragua, Trinitarios, and 18th Street β€” gangs with known activity in Massachusetts.

β€œThe Commonwealth of Massachusetts is a significantly safer place to live and work thanks to the hard work and determination of the men and women of ICE and our federal partners,” said David Wesling, acting field office director for ICE ERO Boston. β€œWorking together, we were able to arrest more than 1,400 illegal aliens throughout the commonwealth, many of whom had significant criminality in the United States or abroad.”

Nolasco-Lopez remains in federal custody pending removal proceedings.
