Cape Cod police arrest man for punching 77-year-old at No Kings event

HYANNIS—An Arlington man has been arrested after a shocking incident at a "No Kings" rally on Cape Cod, where he allegedly assaulted a 77-year-old man. Peter Afouxenides, 61, now faces serious assault and battery charges following a brazen altercation that unfolded near the Airport Rotary this past Saturday.

Police reports indicate that Afouxenides became incensed when the victim, identified as Jeffrey Smith, held a cardboard sign that he claimed touched his vehicle. Eyewitnesses told authorities that Afouxenides exited his blue Toyota SUV and confronted Smith, launching a vicious attack that left the elderly man reeling from multiple punches to the face.

Bystanders quickly rushed to assist Smith, moving him to safety off the roadway, but not before he sustained significant injuries, including facial lacerations and bruises. His glasses were shattered during the ordeal, and he was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, Afouxenides was able to post bail following his arrest and is now awaiting further legal proceedings. Witnesses reported the unsettling scene as police worked to manage the aftermath of this violent encounter, underscoring the stark reality of violence even in public demonstrations.
