BOSTON — A 53-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador with a violent criminal record has been arrested in Massachusetts as part of a sweeping ICE enforcement surge that netted more than 1,400 offenders statewide.
According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Jose Orellana-Peña has an extensive record of violent crimes in Massachusetts, including convictions for indecent assault and battery, assault to rape, and assault and battery, which earned him a one-year sentence in Worcester. He was also convicted of breaking and entering, failing to register as a sex offender, and illegal re-entry, receiving time served in Springfield.

ICE says Orellana-Peña — a previously deported Salvadoran national — was taken into custody during Operation Patriot 2.0, a month-long enforcement blitz targeting violent and repeat criminal aliens.
The joint operation, conducted from September 4 to 30, brought together ICE ERO Boston, Homeland Security Investigations New England, and partners from the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshals Service, Diplomatic Security Service, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. In total, 1,406 illegal aliens were arrested across Massachusetts — more than 600 of them with significant criminal convictions or pending charges.
ICE said the effort also targeted transnational gangs operating in and around Boston, including MS-13, Tren de Aragua, Trinitarios, and 18th Street.
“The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is a significantly safer place to live and work thanks to the hard work and determination of the men and women of ICE and our federal partners,” said David Wesling, acting field office director for ICE ERO Boston. “Working together, we were able to arrest more than 1,400 illegal aliens throughout the commonwealth, many of whom had significant criminality in the United States or abroad.”
Orellana-Peña remains in federal custody pending removal proceedings.
