DARTMOUTH— A former inmate is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to smuggle a substantial stash of cocaine into the Bristol County House of Correction and Jail. Authorities say Raymond Molina-Caraballo, 28, had a plan to profit from his illegal deeds while serving time.
Reports indicate that investigators from the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit were tipped off about Molina-Caraballo's intentions, leading them to monitor his activities closely. It is alleged that he had warrants out for his arrest and was hoping to turn himself in while simultaneously bringing in drugs.
In a dramatic twist, authorities reportedly confiscated over 11 grams of suspected crack cocaine and nearly 26 grams of powdered cocaine destined for the jail. The sheer quantity of drugs raises alarms about the dangers posed to both staff and inmates.
Molina-Caraballo now faces multiple charges, including trafficking a class B substance, possession with intent to distribute a class B substance, and delivering drugs or articles to a prisoner. He was arraigned at New Bedford District Court last month and remains behind bars at the Dartmouth jail.
This troubling incident underscores a glaring issue within the corrections system, where seemingly easy access to contraband continues to threaten the safety of those behind bars. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover any further connections in what appears to be a brazen attempt to exploit the system from within.
