MATTAPAN—A shocking attack on a gay couple has sent shockwaves through the community, leading to the arrest of five suspects in connection with the aggravated assault that unfolded at 550 River Street. The Boston Police Department launched a swift investigation, resulting in the identification and charging of the alleged assailants, who now face serious legal consequences.
The suspects have been formally charged and arraigned in Dorchester District Court. Among them, Franklin Francois, 51, and Woopenson Morisset, 30, both face charges of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. Morisset is additionally accused of causing Serious Bodily Injury, a charge that underscores the severity of the incident. Gardy Exantus, 33, and Maurice Payne, 37, also find themselves facing similar assault charges, as authorities work to bring justice to the victims of this disturbing incident.
Reports indicate that the attack was not only violent but also targeted, raising concerns among community advocates about the safety of LGBTQ+ individuals in the area. The lack of Civil Rights Violation charges at this time has left some wondering if the prosecution will consider the full context of the crimes committed. As the investigation continues, the police remain committed to addressing the broader implications of such hate-fueled violence.
