DARTMOUTH, MA — A sleek private turboprop bound for Wisconsin slammed into I-195 Monday morning, killing two people and turning the busy highway into a fiery crash zone.

The Socata TBM 700, tail number N111RF, had departed from New Bedford Regional Airport and was headed for Kenosha, Wisconsin, according to FlightAware tracking data. Moments after takeoff, around 8 a.m., the plane went down near the Reed Road exit, exploding into flames as it tore into the highway median and set surrounding brush ablaze.

Firefighters from Dartmouth and surrounding towns — joined by New Bedford Crash Rescue — rushed to the scene, battling intense flames and heavy smoke pouring across the interstate. When the fire was finally contained, two people were found dead inside the aircraft. A motorist driving westbound at the time of the crash was also injured and transported to a nearby hospital. Their condition has not been released.

Traffic on I-195 West was shut down for hours as Massachusetts State Police, the FAA, and the NTSB began investigating what caused the high-performance turboprop to plunge from the sky just minutes after departure.

By late morning, the charred wreckage of N111RF remained in the median — a twisted reminder of a routine Monday flight that ended in tragedy.
