ROXBURY — A woman was shot in the back in broad daylight Wednesday on Dudley Street near Mt. Pleasant Avenue, sparking a massive police response and traffic chaos across the area.

Boston police swarmed the intersection just after 4:20 p.m., taping off several blocks as detectives searched for the gunman — who remains on the loose.

The victim’s condition has not been released, and MBTA buses were forced to reroute as officers flooded the street.

Residents described hearing a burst of gunfire followed by screaming as bystanders ducked for cover.

Photos from the scene show police cruisers, shell casings, and yellow tape stretched across the busy Roxbury corridor as investigators combed for clues.
