ROXBURY — A woman was shot in the back in broad daylight Wednesday on Dudley Street near Mt. Pleasant Avenue, sparking a massive police response and traffic chaos across the area.

Boston police swarmed the intersection just after 4:20 p.m., taping off several blocks as detectives searched for the gunman — who remains on the loose.
The victim’s condition has not been released, and MBTA buses were forced to reroute as officers flooded the street.

Residents described hearing a burst of gunfire followed by screaming as bystanders ducked for cover.
