BOSTON — Boston Common is bracing for a fiery scene tonight as protesters gather for a “Flood Downtown for Palestine” rally — a demonstration organizers say will “fight like hell” against U.S. support for Israel.
The march kicks off 5:30 p.m. at The Embrace Monument, part of a national “Week of Rage” campaign marking two years since Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attacks that left more than 1,200 Israelis dead and triggered war in Gaza.

Flyers plastered across social media feature masked figures in keffiyehs and a Boston police cruiser engulfed in flames, with bold red text urging crowds to “flood downtown.” Another post calls the U.S. “an abhorrent empire” and Israel its “51st state.”
Organizers — a mix of Boston-area socialist and student groups — promise a massive turnout, mirroring protests planned in New York and other cities. The event is expected to include speeches, chants, and a march through downtown streets.

Police have not disclosed whether they plan to close roads or boost patrols around the Common, but the imagery and militant tone online suggest tonight’s rally could be one of Boston’s most charged demonstrations in months.
The gathering comes amid renewed campus unrest and sharp divisions nationwide over the Israel–Hamas war — and in Boston, that debate is once again spilling from classrooms to city streets.
