Julian Bowers, 18, and William Cantwell, 19, were charged after a South End street riot left a Boston police cruiser in flames — but both walked free after posting bail of just $500 and $1,000, respectively.

Bowers was arrested after allegedly throwing objects and resisting officers. He faces charges of malicious destruction of property over $1,200, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

Another suspect, William Cantwell, 19, was released on $1,000 bail. Both men were ordered to stay out of Boston except for court appearances and are due back in court on November 5.

Firefighters responded to extinguish the blaze while officers dispersed the crowd. The incident is part of an ongoing series of large street “takeovers” involving fireworks and reckless driving across the city.
